Attitude of Anger II

Many times we have heard people say the same negative thing over and over again and when we try to encourage them, they will say, “yeah but…” they are saying yes I hear you, but I will stay with the same attitude and mindset that I have. Many times, we are not looking to change our circumstances; we only want to continue to express them. Sometimes we want to keep talking about how bad life is, not realizing we have the power to change it with our positive words.

A lot of us do not realize we can change our circumstances by changing our attitude and we change our attitude by changing what we say. The words we say will change our attitude by changing the things our heart ponders and mind considers. The Bible says as a man thinketh (continues to think) so is he, so if we change what we continuously say and think about others or ourselves we will change our thoughts, how we view them and our expectations. What we believe we can accomplish, we will. A positive person believes he can therefore he does. A negative person believes he cannot therefore he does not.

Proverbs 23:7a           For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…

The main point of us having a “will” is that we have a choice. We always have a choice to decide what we will contemplate and what we will say. However, we do not have the choice of the consequences of our decisions. There are natural and spiritual laws that we set in motion once we make our choice. Just as Adam and Eve had a choice to eat or not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil but they had no choice in the consequences or the results of their action. These choices not only affected them but every one of their children and every person that lived after them. No one is an island and no life is private, our choices will affect the people around us.

Jesus came and implemented a greater law, Grace. The life, death and resurrection of Jesus paid all sin debts so that whosoever accepts Jesus as Lord shall be saved and have eternal life. This is the Grace of God toward mankind. God did not leave us in our fallen state; He made provisions for us to be reinstated into the family of God before we were created and before we fell into sin.

 

We maybe in a certain mind set, it could be anger, depression or hate and we may not know why or how we got into that attitude, sometimes it is the company we keep. God tells us to guard the company we keep. An angry people stirs up conflict and will drag everyone who stays around them into their argument. This is why the Bible tells us to be careful when we associate with people who are easily angered because we will begin acting like them and find ourselves in trouble.

Bad company can corrupt good people. We have seen people with pleasant attitudes and they change after being around negative, angry people too long. They begin to say mean things and do unkind things to people. The same things they saw the cruel people do they do to others.

We are to think on good and positive things. We are not to linger on those negative things. This is how we are to keep our mind and attitude right. What is right, pure and of a good report, think on these things. We are told to choose life, to choose to let positive things occupy our mind. We all have seen what happens when we let negativity, hatred and anger smolder and it will combust into flames of destruction. It will only cause death and devastation.

What we do and the choices we make will not only set a course for our lives but it will set the course for our children and their children. Unless a greater law is implemented, such as the saving grace of God and the love of God over our lives, we will remain the same. What we do and say does matter because it has a rippling effect and it will impact everyone it touches.

Proverbs 29:22 An angry person stirs up conflict, and a hot-tempered person commits many sins. NIV

Proverbs 22:24-25 Do not make friends with a hot-tempered person, do not associate with one easily angered, or you may learn their ways and get yourself ensnared. NIV

Proverbs 18:6-7 The lips of fools bring them strife, and their mouths invite a beating. The mouths of fools are their undoing, and their lips are a snare to their very lives NIV

I Corinthians 15:33 Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.

Deuteronomy 30:19 This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before your life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.

Romans 5: 8-11 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
